Acquired as part of a large collection of letters addressed to William Angus Knight, Chair of Moral Philosophy at the University of St. Andrews and Wordsworth scholar. Items in the collection have been individually accessioned and cataloged.
The year of writing is not given however it appears to precede a letter dated June 16, 1872 (see MA 9256.2) in which Knight's visit to Portland Street is discussed.
Carpenter served as minister at Mill Hill Chapel, Leeds from 1869-1975.
