Summary
Concerning Knight's collection of Martineau letters and the desire of Manchester College to form a collection of Martineau manuscripts; saying that the College does not have sufficient funds to purchase Knight's collection but if Knight would give him a valuation, he would try "...to facilitate the settlement;" saying that he will be traveling for two months but will be in Scotland in November and might be able to see Knight's collection; adding "It is grievous that the publication of "Inter Amicos" should have involved you in loss. I hope that the sale may still be such as to protect you from being actually out of pocket. The volume is most interesting: for the contents have not in any way grown old in the 30 years since they were first penned."
