Summary
Concerning the death of Dr. Martineau; saying "This sorrow has been very grievous, but the abounding sympathy of friends assures us that the things of the spirit are of deeper root in the heart of the world's order than the strange & fitful impulses of death. I am so glad to hear that you are about to issue a volume of Martineau letters. It ought to be of the greatest help to the study of his work and thought just in his most fruitful period."
