Summary
Thanking him for his "...pretty little volume of traveller's impressions...;" relating news of Dr. Martineau and his work on a new edition of "Seat of Authority;" saying "He seemed, indeed, full of vigour in thought & speech, but I observe that his daughters greatly dread his attempting the heavy labour of revising so large a volume. I hope that you are well, & fit for the strain on energy which the American journey will involve. It will give you much, but it will also take much out of you."
