Summary
Concerning the union of St. Andrews and Dundee; saying "The Senate can rely upon the D. College to carry out every thing to w'h they have agreed - It seems to me desirable that before 23 Nov'r, The Senate & the D. Council should have among themselves completed their scheme for the amendment of the Ordinance w'h embodies Schedule A; so as to be able to mention this, if necessary, to the Privy Council - The Senate will, I think, be regarded by the P.C. as, in effect, the Managing Body of the Univ'y : for the Court must have destroyed themselves in the opinion of sensible men, by their unreasonable action - The Senate will I hope, have some representative present at the consideration of the Ordinance on Nov. 23rd - It is very likely that the P.C. would not allow a legal representative, because the Senate is not a Party appealing - but it has been suggested that there would, probably, be no objection - and, probably, considerable advantage - if the Principal were present - or some person authorised by the Senate to give their views, if called upon by the Univ. C'ee of P.C. - It is just possible that the Court may give up their opposition to the Ordinance - Any other Body certainly would, in the same circumstances."
