Summary
Concerning the candidacy of William Hastie; saying "I am well aware of the truth of all you say as to his powers & attainments as a theologian, & I don't think it likely that the old India Mysore business will at this time of day be suffered to tell against him. I think we have made a good selection for the Logic Chair & I rejoice to hear that you think so highly of Adamson. I shall be glad to have done with this patronage work. It is to me most anxious, & in some respects, painful work.
