Summary
Concerning a manuscript Caird is contributing to a publication; saying "It is not your fault that the lazy members of your team are not more alert. The crack of your whip is not often or long unheard by them. I have had a somewhat worrying & anxious time of it this Session & business has for months driven metaphysics far from my thoughts. All I can say is that I shall set about it now, & I hope the little I have yet to do will be soon done;" commenting on Knight's suggestion of Hutchison Stirling as a lecturer; saying "He lies however more within the jurisdiction of Edinburgh than of the other Universities. We have not thought or spoken anything of arrangements for the lecture here - I scarcely think it would do to confer our favours on one of ourselves in the first instance."
