Acquired as part of a large collection of letters addressed to William Angus Knight, Chair of Moral Philosophy at the University of St. Andrews and Wordsworth scholar. Items in the collection have been individually accessioned and cataloged.
The year of writing is not provided, however, Caird first introduced himself to Knight in a letter dated January 22, 1872 (see MA 9198.1) and Caird remained at Glasgow University until his death in 1898. This letter appears to follow a letter dated January 21st (no year) inviting Knight to preach on April 3rd.
