Summary
Expressing his appreciation for an honor bestowed on him by St. Andrews; saying "Pray offer my best & most respectful acknowledgments to the Senatus. Many thanks to you - for I have no doubt the whole affair is your doing - for thinking of such a thing, and more, for your & Mrs. Knight's kind invitation;" explaining that his wife has not been well "...& dreads going from home, & - don't think me grumpily for saying it - I never go from home if I can possibly help it. I don't think you have a more unclubbable man in the whole circle of your acquaintance. I don't the less feel grateful to you for so kindly asking us to come to see you, & I hope you & Mrs. Knight will return good for evil by coming to see us whenever you can find it convenient to bend your steps Westwards. I can assure you of a warm welcome."
