Summary
Thanking him for a gift; adding "It so happens that Mrs. Jack sent a copy to my wife. She has been reading it with much interest, as I am sure, will I, when she has finished reading it. I have only seen one or two brief notices of it, which speak of your part as performed with all your [illegible] literary skill. I am sorry to hear that the results in a material point of view are less satisfactory, & I can scarcely imagine why it sh'd be so."
