Summary
Concerning the position of Assessor in the University Court; saying "It so happens that no member of the Divinity Faculty has ever been appointed by our Senate as their Assessor in the University Court. The Senate, I believe, have generally, in this matter, acted on the principle that the Arts Faculty, which is the largest & in some respects most important (the Arts Students numbering at present nearly 1400) should be represented in the Court at least at every alternate election;" naming the previous Assessors and their experience; adding "It is possible that my connection with the Court may have had some influence on the minds of the members of the Senate in their preference of lay to clerical Assessors, but I think the election has been determined mainly by the consideration to which I have referred & the greater good of the University which is involved in it." .
