Acquired as part of a large collection of letters addressed to William Angus Knight, Chair of Moral Philosophy at the University of St. Andrews and Wordsworth scholar. Items in the collection have been individually accessioned and cataloged.
Written on stationery embossed with the seal of the Oxford Union Society.
The year of writing is not provided however it appears from the content that it may be Caird's first year at Oxford as Master of Balliol College.

Summary
Telling him that he would be glad to see him but that he cannot offer him a bed as he is at the College and his wife is not yet with him; asking that he let him know his plans as soon as possible "...as I am apt to get engaged [illegible] there are so many old friends in Oxford. My brother I am sure will be glad to preach for you if you ask him. I shall let him know about it the next time I write; " suggesting a place for him to stay in Oxford.
