Summary
Concerning meetings that appear to be related to the Universities Act of Scotland; informing him that "...the Council - as you probably will be glad to hear - proposed to go back to the wording of the 3rd article - as great objections have been taken to Brown's amendment & from totally opposite quarters - on the one hand from those who wish [illegible] in the School & on the other hand from those - especially the Committee of the Birmingham League - who think that by the amendment religious teaching is allowed at all hours provided it does not call itself sectarian. As I was accepted merely to satisfy those whom it appears not to satisfy - and displeases many[,] we resolved at a meeting of Council yesterday to [illegible] to return to the old phraseology - and to do so in a meeting summoned partly for that purpose, partly to hear the report of the Deputation."
