Thanking him for the copy of his book on Monboddo; saying what he has read he has found very interesting; saying everyone at the College is away and that he will go to Greenock to see his brothers and to give "...five of my Gifford Lectures before I return;" telling him of the death of Sir John Conroy "...one of our Tutors, who died at Rome about 10 days ago. He was a man of very beautiful & unselfish character."
