Summary
Thanking him for his words of sympathy; saying "As we grow old, we must expect to be marked by the 'separator of companions'. But it is hardly possible to realise that a lifelong communion - during a great part of time - of almost every interest has come to an end so far as such things can end;" saying he is sorry to hear of his illness and was disappointed not to see him at Oxford during the last term; adding that his sister-in-law is bearing up well.
