Summary
Saying he is sorry to hear that his "...meeting turned out so badly, & had no idea you depended so much on me...I am not at any rate good for much in speaking to unfamiliar audiences. As for Hegel, I will try to have it ready at the beginning of the winter - but I cannot promise anything decidedly. I have been thinking & writing about Hegel ever since the beginning of the vacation, but find it very difficult to see how to say anything at once true & still yet in the form required. I have not written a word of the book itself : but parts of what I have written may do with modifications. I am very sorry to be so slow about it : but I cannot do anything till I see my way clearly. And tho' it is a little book, I find it almost easier to write a long one about Hegel. After all I am afraid it will be a poor affair for the subject;" relating news of mutual friends.
