Summary
Apologizing for not replying earlier but saying he has been very ill; saying he cannot promise to come to St. Andrews as his work load of classes and papers prohibits it; commenting on his work on Hegel saying "...I thought last summer that I might have got it ready for you - but got turned aside to some intricate questions about Hegel's early development. I cannot promise anything except that I intend to give the beginning of the vacation to it, & will, if possible, get it done then. My main difficulty is the limits & I w'd like to know the utmost space you could give me. As to the Ladies' Degrees, I am quite ready for any move : but there is great difficulty with the Senate here, which led us instead to propose a higher Certificate in communion with the Local Examinations - This tho' not satisfactory, serves the purpose so far;" inviting him to visit in March or April.
