Summary
Asking him to "...make my best acknowledgments to your colleagues for the honour they have done me. I value it very highly [illegible] as coming from your University & also as from a body among whom are very good friends [illegible] many whose approval is the best kind of reward. Your plan of a philosophical library seems very good tho' in philosophy it is very difficult to be a populariser without being what the French call a Vulgariser. I shall see what [illegible] says about it. There w'd need to be some kind of concert as to the general plan to make the series instructive & not marketed to the general public;" adding that he'd like to talk with him about it but he cannot get away as his "...class is so large this year & work accumulates so much but I am glad to make up arrears in the holidays;" assuming that he will be "...expected to come to St. Andrews to be capped. When does that ceremony take place?"
