Summary
Asking for any information on a person he is considering for the Anderston Church Election Committee in Glasgow; saying "Macfarlane is to preach in Glasgow week Sunday & I hope he may be liked as I c'd be very glad to press his claims if he has any chance;" asking if he could "...recommend any very sound liberal who has some gift for preaching. The Anderston Church are to a certain extent accustomed to reasonable views of things;" expressing his disappointment that Campbell "...did not succeed for the Chair: but the testimony in favour of Jebb was so very strong & from such authorities that the council were almost forced to give it him - especially as everybody kept saying that C. was lacking in vigour, which is not quite fair tho' plausible;" commenting on the excellent recommendations he received from Cambridge for such a young man.
