Summary
Reminding Knight that his opinion "...as to the transference of Blairs College to StA was once different to that which you now express - You wrote to me on July 21, 1893, as follows: - 'Let me add that if the rumours which have reached us of your generous intentions in another direction for the extension and development - as well as the strengthening - of our University, are founded in fact, you will receive the heartiest thanks of all [there you efface the words 'connected with ; and substitute] lovers of St. Andrews and its Colleges. The inclusion of more Colleges within the University has been my ambition for twenty years - Such 'university extension' will be hailed, I trust, nemine contradicente.' Many thanks for your kind expressions as to the personal relations which I have always sought to entertain with yourself, as well as with all others connected with StA. When I received Canon Chisholm's letter, it never occurred to me to doubt that he had written it for publication."
