Summary
Concerning the reprinting of an address by Lord Salisbury to be included in a publication with other addresses; saying he agrees with Knight "...that we had better wait for Lord Salisbury's Brit. Assoc. address - It is sure to be colourless politically, and to be the best thing intellectually which he can produce - However, other works had better be looked up, and the choice, in any case, would have to be left to him. He certainly would not consent, however, to have a paper of his upon spectrum analysis (however excellent in itself) printed alongside of one of Dr. Huggins, the Master of the subject. (I don't know what Huggins may be going to give us - but it is likely to be upon that, and perhaps his Brit. Assoc. Presidential address, which was upon it.);" adding, in a postscript, "Some private information which I had yesterday gives me strengthened hopes that Blairs College will be re-built at St. Andrews - This means (in a few years, as far as i can foresee) 60 or 70 bursaries (in the College's own gift, of course) and some 100 more students than at present, with the future possibility of a good many more - Faxit Deus."
