Summary
Offering book titles and names of scholars, at length and in detail, in response to a request from Knight that appears to relate to the confessional and the sacraments; discussing the Women's College at StA saying "As to the other thing - whether I were ever to give anything to the Women's Coll. at StA, w'd depend upon many things - for instance, it might not want it - But a much more serious question is raised by the attitude of Dundee - They are already trying to deprive StA of her Medical Faculty, although they have not a single pupil who has passed the classical preliminary for that Faculty. Peterson avows his intention of destroying the Theological Faculty, and applying the endowments of St. Mary's to a training institute for schoolmasters - I have no idea of giving nor could I advise the Pfeiffer Trustees to give money to an object which should be a mere resting-place on its way to Dundee, and thence to be distributed in retiring allowances to gentlemen who call themselves Professors but who have been shown by the inexorable logic of facts to be impotent to find pupils."
