Summary
Concerning Lord Bute's recent purchase and future use of the Priory House of St. Andrew's Cathedral; inviting Knight to call on him and also explaining "I have, however, written to Mr. Logan, the present tenant of the Priory, that I hope to call upon him on Wednesday afternoon, and as I have never seen my new purchase except from the street or the top of St. Regulus' tower, I am likely to spend some time with him. I have bought the Priory from historical and archaeological considerations, and not with the intention ascribed to me by the newspaper paragraphs - If the Scottish Catholic Bishops were to come to a resolution to transfer their ancient College from Blairs to StA, they would, in my opinion, do a very wise thing in their own interest, and I should rejoice with you, in the interests of the University : but if they did, I believe they w'd seek a site elsewhere, nor should I feel inclined to yield to them my antiquarian prize, even if they wanted it - As far, however, as I know , they have come to no decision as to the subject, or even the moving of the institution from Blairs - and you will, of course, understand that in my official position I have desired that (whatever money help I might be willing to give them as a private individual) anything like official overtures and negociations should be made to and with other University authorities, especially Principal Donaldson - who would bring before the Court any proposals which (quod faxit Deus) they may ever make.".
