Summary
Printed card to be presented at William Cobbett's Barn-Elm Farm by workers seeking employment: "If the bearere of this be an Englishman or Scotchman, able to work, and come to Barn-Elm Farm, at 7 o'clock in the morning of the 24th of December, and bring with him a sharp spade, and go to work under the orders of me, or my head man ... he shall receive five pounds of meat. He shall have, beside a corn cake and a pint of beer at noon. But, if he disobey any order given him, or is lazy, he is to receive no meat, nor any payment whatsoever.--No Irishman will be employed on any account, even if he be the bearer of this card."
