Summary
Writing that he and his party (his father, sister and son) will be leaving Pornic the next day, and that they expect to reach Paris by Friday and London a week afterwards; adding that he hopes they can see the Storys before they depart on another trip: "I rather fancy that we may, supposing that friends will continue to snatch at you, & that Chapman & his printers will not be more miraculously expeditious than usual"; adding that he is very happy to hear about the successful sale of some of William Story's statues; commenting on the political and military news from Italy and the United States; describing Pen: "he has taken his fifty-first good swim in the sea, -- is brick-coloured and broad-shouldered: he wants to see you all, as you may suppose -- you & Edie"; discussing publishing schedules: "Remember that the 'season,' for publishing, is terribly early in October: -- [John] Forster writes to me that he will not let the little collection of my things, which has been printed & ready more than two months ago, appear before 'the middle of November at the very earliest'" (probably a reference to Browning's Selections, published on December 22, 1862 with a 1863 date on the title page); sending love and "best regards" from Pen, his father, and his sister.
