Acquired as part of a large collection of letters addressed to William Angus Knight, Chair of Moral Philosophy at the University of St. Andrews and Wordsworth scholar. Items in the collection have been individually accessioned and cataloged.
Written on stationery embossed with the seal of the House of Commons.
The year of writing is not provided, however, a subsequent postcard dated June 22, 1899, (MA 9110.13) appears to be a follow-on to this invitation and giving Professor Knight the name of the Hotel where Samuel Clemens is staying. The Tuesday referred to in the invitation would have been June 20, 1899.
