Summary
Saying that he composed a reply to Knight's inquiry about planting a rose by Elizabeth Barrett Browning's tomb, but then forgot to send it: "I should explain that the house is in the hands of workmen, and that I am, with all my belongings, crowded into the smallest possible space; the consequent confusion being such as to have caused this unfortunate accident"; giving his approval to the idea; describing the gravesite: "I went to see what space is available. There is a rose plant which was trained on the low railing which surrounds the grave; but it seems to have suffered rather, and there remains just room for another at the opposite end of the narrow strip of ground which was on one side of the tomb only, between the railing and the path"; thanking Knight for "your kind intuition which I truly appreciate."
