Notes
Acquired as part of a large collection of letters addressed to William Angus Knight, Chair of Moral Philosophy at the University of St. Andrews and Wordsworth scholar. Items in the collection have been individually accessioned and cataloged.
Most of the Brooke-Knight correspondence that concerns the prints Knight donated to Dove Cottage comes from 1897-1898, suggesting that this letter was also written during that period.
On the verso, there is a note from Brooke to Dunthorne, who was responsible for framing the prints: "Dear Dr. Dunthorne / Give this to / Prof. Knight / if he calls."
Signed with his initials.
Provenance
Purchased by Pierpont Morgan from William Angus Knight, 1908.
Summary
Explaining that he has had "far too much to do -- incessant & worrying -- to look at those prints again. You must forgive me. It would take me 2 hours, & I have not so much to spare. I am off to Bristol in an hour"; promising to send the selection to Knight when he returns home on Wednesday.
