Summary
Concerning two letters written by Lucy Shannon Gordon in the context of the Jamaica Committee (see MA 2794.6 for more information): writing that he is surprised by Mrs. Gordon's second letter, and he wonders if Louis Chamerovzow advised her to write it: "I cannot help thinking that Mr. Chamerovzow leans strongly to the views of Mr. [Charles] Buxton, which, in my opinion, are fatal to the objects & usefulness of the Com[mi]ttee"; asking for further explanations from Chamerovzow as to how and why the letter was written: "he has seen Mrs. Gordon since our interview, & he knows all the facts exactly"; adding that "If Mrs. Gordon, of her own free will, has come to the conclusion which she has announced, I can only respect it -- but if others have influenced her, then I blame them as obstructing the Com[mi]ttee, & the course of Justice, & the interests of the black race everywhere"; commenting that he approves of the questions announced by John Stuart Mill (see MA 2794.6) and finds the resolutions proposed by Buxton "milk & water with too much water."
