Summary
Concerning the activities of the Jamaica Committee: writing that he has met with Lucy Shannon Gordon (George William Gordon's widow), in the presence of her uncle Mr. Clarkson and Louis Chamerovzow, and that she "adheres to her opinion that she should not be the prosecutor of Mr Eyre -- but she agrees that, for the [cause] of public justice, & for the security of the Black race, proceedings ought to be taken against him"; explaining that Mrs. Gordon has suggested that these proceedings be taken by her relatives and friends, and that she has promised to write a letter to Mr. Chamerovzow to this effect; discussing the possible publication of this letter and another by Goldwin Smith (possibly about fundraising), to which Bright suggests that John Stuart Mill, Thomas Hughes, the Treasurer of the Committee, and he himself add their signatures; adding that he is anxious to see the questions that Mill will be announcing that evening and recommending that these questions be sent to the newspapers, "so that the Country may see them in their completeness."
