Summary
Concerning the Alderley Edge Lecture program; replying to his letter and informing him that their lecture program for the season is complete; sending him a program "...which will show you that they are on a rather different basis from those given by Prof. Nichol (whose card I also enclose). They used to be strictly educational & questions were given & Essays in answer expected. They were also chiefly attended by ladies & were held in the morning. Now the gentlemen complain that they cannot attend unless the lectures are held in the evening, so we have altered the time. The consequence is that we are obliged to have a larger interval between each lecture as evening engagements are very numerous at Alderley, & this I fear will make it difficult for us to secure the services of Lecturers coming from a long distance. We have this year, as you will see, a number of different subjects - & lecturers;" saying she does not know what the Committee will decide for the next year but hopes they "...could make it worth your while to give us at least one lecture;" adding that she will write again when she has more information; adding, in a postscript, that she only has information on Alderley Lectures but she will ask about Bolton and Manchester.
