Summary
Thanking him for his "kind note about Sellars - I am very sorry he was so backward in competition, & no doubt his illness had much to do with it. He will never be a brilliant Scholar, but I have hopes still he may get a University degree & should be sorry to give up the hope of this, as I condemn very much 'giving up' any project. He always passed his Exams well when Articled as a Pupil Teacher & though in a measure slow, he has a certain amount of pluck & application which ought to tell favorability in the end - I cannot thank you enough for your kind suggestion as to your classes - but I presume if he goes on with the University course, he would have to come to you at the proper period of his University life & would be going ahead too soon, to do so now. I have written to the Boy & put before him the seriousness of the situation & I hope he will pull up & show better form before the end of this Session - Next Summer I must try to get him some Coaching & if he has good health, that will be a great help to him;" thanking him for his interest in him; adding "He is a good & honest fellow & wishes to do all for the best."
