Referring to something being returned with the card, possibly pages from Knight's book on John Campbell Shairp; referring to a poem by Shairp about his Balliol friends in which he mentions one "Seymour", whose sister "was the 1st Lady Coleridge" (possibly the painter Jane Fortescue Seymour); recommending that the anecdote about Hodgson (the philosopher Shadworth Hollway Hodgson, who had been a student at Rugby School) needs a preface; suggesting wording for it: "Many instances might be given of Shairps unfailing readiness to act as the champion in central England of Scottish history & of the Scottish Church ...".
