Summary
Writing that he is glad that what he "scribbled" was of use to Knight (probably referring to reminiscences of John Campbell Shairp; see MA 9062.3); asking Knight to pass his "warmest remembrances" to Shairp's widow, Eliza; mentioning that he had heard his wife Marian say that morning that "there was no man in the world whom she had more admired & from whom she learned more of all her husband's friends than Shairp"; discussing his work on the correspondence of Arthur Penrhyn Stanley (see MA 9062.4) and suggesting that there might be material about Shairp in Stanley's papers.
