Summary
Concerning Professor Knight's candidacy for the Athenæum Club; saying "You may rely on my utmost exertions & I feel sure we shall soon have you - I do not think it would be desirable for you to write yourself & I am sure that with Lord A. Russell who is quite a friend of mine & Lecky, you will have the best backing possible. I have copied the list. A. Russell is the Duke of Bedford's brother, & cousin of Rollo Russell - Sir E. Thornton I know well & he is a great friend of my sister in law;" commenting on the cold weather and mentioning that he will be going to visit Sir C. Dalrymple for a few days; saying "One longs for good September days. Lushington, by the bye, is not Tennyson's brother in law - He is Edward Law Lushington - I do not know Edward;" adding that he has many questions to ask him but will save them until he visits.
