Notes
Acquired as part of a large collection of letters addressed to William Angus Knight, Chair of Moral Philosophy at the University of St. Andrews and Wordsworth scholar. Items in the collection have been individually accessioned and cataloged.
On stationery engraved "Deanery, / Salisbury" but that has been crossed through and Boyle gives the place of writing as "St. Alban's Cliffs / Bournemouth."
Boyle has written "Strictly / Private" above the salutation.
The year of writing is not provided, however the letter concerns Professor Knight's candidacy for the Athenæum Club which it appears Boyle has first suggested in a letter of June 1, 1889 (MA 9053.8). Knight was elected a member of the Club in 1897.
