Summary
Expressing his happiness that he will see him soon, reminding him that he will be their guest and telling him he hopes to gather some friends he might like to see; saying his "slight volume is out & friends are most kind in welcoming it. I know how very much better it ought to be;" saying he wished they could visit him at St. Andrews "...but I feel more & more as years go on how uncertain all one's moves are - In the last few months the list of my friends who are gone from earth is a very sad one and so it is as one grows older;" commenting, in a postscript, "Is not my friend Lord Acton's appointment a curious one!".
