Summary
Commenting on the loss of the Bishop of Durham and Robert Browning; fearing that he will be unable to attend either the funeral of Bishop Lightfoot or Robert Browning "...for it is the heaviest time of [illegible] here and the illness of one or two young staff impose more work on me;" saying that he had hoped to have been on the Riviera with the Bishop of Durham [Joseph Lightfoot] but "Dieu dispose - It is a complete Life and there is another great character in the roll of great bishops. Browning is an awful loss. Surely the most [illegible] intellect of our age! I really marvel more & more at his wide success, and true grasp of life and beyond life. I wish you were to lecture here next month instead of me to a young mens society. I hope next spring will see you on the Athenæum list of honour. S. Andrews has got her noble legacy;" commenting on how much he likes the edition of the Wordsworth Selections; relating news of a mutual friend and the topic of his current lectures.
