The letter is double-dated December 16 / 27, 1707.
Louis Berard was hired by the Duke of Leeds to tutor his grandsons William Henry Osborne, Earl of Danby (1690-1711) and Peregrine Hyde Osborne, Viscount Dunblane (1691-1731). He provided weekly accounts of the education of the two boys in this collection of letters.

Summary
Reporting that the boys are doing very well in their studies, and that they are all concerned that they have not heard from him or anyone in the family for four weeks; adding that he is planning to send in his fourth quarter accounts and reporting "There is no considerable news stirring; only there are great alterations in Gelderland, since the surrendering of Arnhem, to the advantage of those whom the late king had put into the places of trust."
