Louis Berard was hired by the Duke of Leeds to tutor his grandsons William Henry Osborne, Earl of Danby (1690-1711) and Peregrine Hyde Osborne, Viscount Dunblane (1691-1731). He provided weekly accounts of the education of the two boys in this collection of letters.

Summary
Acknowledging receipt of five letters from him in which they learned of "...Yr. Graces Indisposition, for whose welfare we never cease to pray. We hope in God all is over by this time & that you are quite recovered of your pain;" reporting that the boys are well and he has nothing material to report; adding that he will be sending a statement of his accounts.
