Summary
Thanking him for his letter and discussing his new job; saying "My new job here was all very unexpected and rather alarming, but here I am. My duties are to direct the Department which deals with popularising the army generally, and finding the necessary number of recruits - a whole time job in this land of voluntary service. It involves a good deal of travelling about, making speeches, interviewing the necessary people, and feeding the Press with the right kind of material. Our old friend Ian Hay is completely out of a job at the present moment, as his military relative has commandeered the whole of his working time. However, as soon as the Major-General settles down, and condenses his labours somewhat, we may be able to produce a little fiction on the side."
