Acquired as part of a large collection of letters addressed to William Angus Knight, Chair of Moral Philosophy at the University of St. Andrews and Wordsworth scholar. Items in the collection have been individually accessioned and cataloged.
Four letters are written on stationery engraved "Swannington House, / near Leicester" and one letter on the engraved stationery of "Coleorton Hall / Ashby de la Zouch."
Three of the years do not provide a year of writing however it appears likely, from the content, that the letter dated October 27 was written in 1887 and the one dated June 16th in 1889. There is no clear means of assigning a year to the third therefore the date range given for the collection extends to 1916, the year of Professor Knight's death.
Being a collection of five autograph letters signed from Lady Beaumont to Professor Knight. Two of the letters are dated, January 11 and January 19, 1904 and the remaining three are undated. The letters thank him for sending her volumes of his work. Letters in the collection have been described individually in five separate catalog records; see related records for more information.
