Summary
Asking after Pen's hand and his cough; instructing him not to write long letters, "because I don't want you to teaze yourself or do anything but enjoy the country and this beautiful weather"; enclosing some lint; telling him about attending a concert with Frederic Leighton and Val Prinsep; mentioning that he has spent the day "modelling a head of Dante, and [I] mean to occupy myself with my clay in your absence. You know how I must miss you, but I am glad of it, as I am sure this holiday will do you good"; sending Arabella's love and the news that "Ocky" (Octavius) will be renting out his house in the summertime; mentioning that he has written to Isa Blagden and the Storys; sending his thanks to Pen's uncle and aunt, Henry and Amelia, for hosting him; adding in a postscript: "You see by Ld. P's [probably Lord Palmerston] speech last night that this new crime of the poor Emperor's was another pure invention, and that he never said a word about Garibaldi's going", referring to Napoleon III's alleged objection to the reception given Garibaldi in England on his trip there in the spring of 1864.
