Summary
Telling her maternal grandmother that her mother, Mary Moulton-Barrett, is recovering after the birth of her eighth child, George, and that the baby himself is also improving each day; writing that "Mr Somebody, or Mrs Somebody" has given them grapes and pineapples; describing the beauty of Hope End and the natural world around it; telling her about a new game the siblings have been playing: "we have each been Queen, or King of some country, or island, for example I and Arabella are the empresses of the Hyeres, Bro [Edward] and Henrietta are the emperor and empress of Italy, Storm [Charles] is the Prince of Rome, and Sam is Emperor of Oberon"; describing the outcome of a scuffle between the siblings: "the other day Henrietta and I fought, I conquered, took her prisoner and tied her to the leg of the table"; signing off "Your child/ EB, otherwise, Signed/ Empress of the Hyeres"; asking her grandmother to excuse her bad writing, "for I have been romping in the hay till I am quite tired & not likely to appear to advantage either on paper or on my legs."
