Writing that the drawing of Hope End that George has sent is just what he was looking for (see MA 2148.89); asking other questions about Hope End; mentioning that "Ocky" (Octavius) has sent a miniature of EBB; writing that George Smith is wholly to be trusted with these items, and that as soon as engravings are made, the originals will be returned to their owners; asking for other biographical details; telling George that Pen's portrait of him has been seen and praised by John Everett Millais, Lawrence Alma-Tadema, Joseph Joachim, and George Henry Boughton, among others; mentioning that Frederic Leighton has heard that the portrait is "exquisite"; writing that it has been asked for by the Grosvenor Gallery, and that Pen is well-represented in the Paris Exposition, with both paintings and sculptures in the show.
