Summary
Telling him that Pen and Fannie Browning returned last week from a trip to America, during most of which Fannie was unfortunately ill; writing that they leave next week for Venice, where Pen intends to "paint certain aspects of the city and its inhabitants which he fancies have never been made use of before"; discussing Pen's plans for the future and assuring George that Pen will come see him and his other relatives on his next trip back to England; commenting on an exchange of letters in the Times between himself and J.H. Ingram, editor of The Poetical Works of Elizabeth Barrett Browning from 1826 to 1844, about inaccurate biographical information that Ingram had included in the volume; mentioning that the "new Edition promises to be successful" (probably referring to the fourth edition of The Poetical Works of Robert Browning, published by Smith, Elder & Co., 1888-1894) and describing the activites of his publisher: "Smith interests himself greatly in the affair, supplies illustrations liberally, and is all zeal on my behalf. I do my part and correct what little I can,--but there will be no material change anywhere."
