Summary
Writing to the manager of the Chatto & Windus firm to notify him that the New York publisher Appleton has handed his book [The deemster] over to Harpers, wondering if he should ask for additional payment, and asking Mr. Hytch to send the sheets to Harpers "as early as possible - or we may get nothing while making faces at half a loaf"; enclosing a list of newspapers and asking him to compare it to his own publicity press list; stressing the efficacy of sending free copies of a book to editors to increase the chances of the book actually being read; noting that his publisher has "one or two books treading closely on The D's heels", and expressing his hope that his novel will be given "its full allowance of time" before the public.
