On mourning stationery.
Given the stationery used, the fact that this was written by Balfour himself and not a secretary (all Balfour's letters to Knight from 1886 onwards are dictated), and the subject matter (see, for instance, MA 8861.2 and MA 8861.2), it seems most likely that this letter was written in 1880 or 1881.
