Summary
Concerning a collection of his speeches: "There are no doubt many things in my Speeches which it would be convenient to have in a permanent form, but the speeches themselves are always delivered without any verbal preparation, with the inevitable result that the style in point of finish leaves a very great deal to be desired. I should be reluctant to issue them uncorrected; and the work of correction would be long and infinitely wearisome."
