Summary
Agreeing with Knight that "there could not be a better man than [Samuel] Butcher for the post you mention"; commenting, however, that "he is not a T.C.D. man" (probably, Trinity College, Dublin) and that "I think the College would regard the introduction of an outsider -- even though an Irishman, and an Irishman of Butcher's ability & charm -- as something in the nature of an insult. It is a great pity."
